The Evaluation of Office Control in Intermittent Exotropia: A Systematic Approach

Judy L. Petrunak, C.O., C.O.M.T. and Rajesh Rao, M.D.

Introduction: The clinical assessment of control in childhood intermittent exotropia is difficult to characterize and document. Yet the quality of control often dictates when to proceed with treatment for X(T).

Methods: A prospective method to evaluate and document control in children with X(T) is presented, utilizing the timeliness of the recovery of fusion after brief and prolonged binocular association.

Conclusion: This assessment provides a method to systematically observe, describe, and document the control of X(T) in an office setting.
