Congenital Abduction Deficits
Congenital abduction deficits encompass a wide variety of disorders, some benign and some quite serious, and often present clinical challenges in diagnosis and management. This paper will provide a brief clinically oriented overview of this subject, and is intended primarily for those involved in the evaluation and care of patients. The areas to be discussed include: 1) clinical significance of congenital abduction deficits, 2) categorization by mechanism, 3) differential diagnosis, 4) patient evaluation, 5) clinical management, 6) recent findings, and 7) future directions and unanswered questions. A list of references will also be provided that can give the interested reader more detailed information about some of the subjects covered.
