Incidence of Dissociated Vertical Divergence in Intermittent Exotropia
Cindy Pritchard, C.O.
Although dissociated vertical divergence (DVD) has been reported in as high as 90% of patients with congenital esotropia, its incidence is considered to be very low in intermittent exotropia. Patients with X(T) were examined for the presence of DVD to determine the incidence in this condition. Forty-seven percent of the 45 intermittent exotropes examined were found to exhibit DVD. The presence of DVD does not appear to correlate with visual acuity, age of onset, age at time of examination, level of stereopsis or degree of control.
