Delayed Adjustment in Strabismus Surgery with Silicone Sheet versus Early Adjustment

Background:

The surgical results of esotropia, exotropia and reoperations were evaluated to determine the effectiveness of delayed adjustable sutures.

Method:

Three surgical techniques were compared: conventional surgery, adjustable suture with silicone sheet for delayed adjustment and adjustable suture without silicone sheet.

Results:

The three methods in patients with esotropia showed no statistically significant differences (Kruskal-Wallis 2.9659; P=0.2281). However, patients with exotropia (Kruskal-Wallis 6.3557; P=0.0393) and patients undergoing reoperations (Kruskal-Wallis 7.0084; P=0.0251) showed significant differences with the three surgical techniques.

Conclusion:

Delayed adjustment surgery is useful for patients with exotropia and reoperated cases.
