The Occurrence of Sequential and Simultaneous Extraocular Muscle Palsies in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus
Lindreth G. DuBois, M.Ed., C.O., C.O.M.T., Leslie W. France, C.O.
Diabetes is a well-known cause of ischemic extraocular muscle palsies, although the prevalence of these isolated episodes in patients with diabetes has not been reported. In several large series of reported cases, only about 5% of all EOM palsies were attributable to diabetes. Although sequential isolated diabetic EOM palsies are well documented, the occurrence of simultaneous diabetic EOM palsies is extremely rare.
