Intermittent Exotropia: How do They "Turn Out"?

Despite the fact that intermittent exotropes are a group of patients with good fusion potential and normal muscle and nerve function we are unable to maintain a cure in a large percentage of cases. A discussion regarding treatment modalities including anti-suppression and fusion exercises, minus lenses, prisms and surgery and their results are presented. The author proposes that we organize our effort to conduct the research necessary to provide a treatment approach with a more scientific basis rather than rely on clinical impressions.
