Monofixation Exotropia

We report on a group of 46 patients with the diagnosis of monofixation syndrome occurring as an exotropia. The manifest exotropia averaged 4.4 prism diopters at near and 5.0 prism diopters at far. Twenty-eight percent had amblyopia and 11 % had anisometropia. Sixty-three percent of patients demonstrated stereoacuity. Patients with primary exotropia were more likely to exhibit stereoacuity and patients with secondary residual exotropia showed superior stereopsis compared to those with consecutive exotropia.
